Hidden Mexico!

Today we went on an excursion called Hidden Mexico. It started out bright and early - we got a taxi to the Marina where we met our tour guide. We then boarded this huge yellow bus/van/off-road thing and headed off. We drove through Puerto Vallarta on our way to the Botanical Gardens. Here we saw all kinds of neat flowers, trees, and even a green parakeet. Next we stopped at a place where we checked out some carvings into stones (I'll have to check the exact name of it later). It dates wayyy back and stories are told through these pictures on the rocks.

Next stop was lunch, which was awesome. We were guided to an old ranch back down some dusty trails in our truck. We then crossed a wooden bridge and saw that we were eating lunch in the river! They had tables set up in the water - we had to take our socks and shoes off to get there. We enjoyed a traditional Mexican lunch! Even Matt and I found something we liked to eat! After lunch we had a few minutes to wander - well the owner of the house on the property invited us in to take a look around. Very cool.

After lunch we went to el Tuito, an old Mexican town in the mountains. We did come across some rain getting there. Here we stopped at a wood workshop where they make the little wood carvings. Next we went to the cemetery to check out a Mexican cemetery - they are pretty different than back home. After that we went to the town square and went to tour an old church.

Finally our guide broke out the Cerveza on the bus and we had some drinks on route!

Then back on the bus and we headed to a tequila place where we got to try different kinds of tequila. And we agreed on one thing - chocolate tequila is amazing!! (There might even be some coming home in the suitcase)

Our last stop was an artisan bakery, where they were making fresh breads. I tried some but didn't buy any. Then we got back on our truck thing and headed back to Marina Vallarta.

It just so happened that tonight on the Marina there was a huge flea market. We wandered a little bit before hailing a taxi and heading back to our resort. We just finished supper and now we are having some drinks waiting for the show.

Tomorrow will be another relax pool day - maybe head to the Melacon (a huge boardwalk and shopping place downtown) to see what we can find!!
